Summer studio, AUGUST 2004.
Date: 6 weeks, July - August 2004
Type: Architecture project
Design: Isabella Bruno
Location: Columbia's Intro to Architecture program, through GSAPP
This studio at Columbia University's GSAPP addressed the issue of temporal program, in material, culture and site. Beginning with material studies that were then analyzed to understand the logic of material (medical tubing) and then continuing with extensive research and reading into the concept of temporality, our final project was to combine the disparate systems we discovered into a viable design. My personal investigation involved the culture of outdoor film festivals, the influence of film, the logics of the material (namely torque and perforation/rupture) and my site between West 71st and 73rd on the soon-to-be rejuvenated Hudson River Park. My final design was a outdoor film screening space, designed to mold to other uses and programs.
