Displaced

Date: April 25th, 2006
Type: Performance
Design: Isabella Bruno
Location: Alvin Ailey Joan C. Weil - Manhattan, NY.

Made possible by The Ailey School. Displaced concerns the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina through the experiences of those who have been been abruptly expelled from their physical context. The choreography wrestles with the complexity of the disaster in an arresting, yet attractive movement vernacular. The dehumanizing aspects of massive recovery efforts contrast with the struggle of relationships under extreme pressure. The music of God speed, You Black Emperor! provides an atmospheric, emotional score, in union with recorded interviews of people intimately connected to the choreographer and the disaster. In addition, video footage taken by the choreographer and edited by Dee Wong complement each section with images of the disaster areas.
